Officials say progress is being made to address a major gas outage at a Yonkers housing complex.

It happened at the Palisade Towers in August 2024, when a series of leaks were found in a main line.

Since then, residents have been given hot plates and convection ovens for cooking.

Some of those residents tell News 12 it has been challenging, especially around the holidays when making meals.

"It takes forever," says Desiree Guzman, who lives at Palisade Towers.

Efforts have been underway to get things fixed by switching over the utility from gas to electric.

Officials have previously told News 12 that takes time and money.

However, leaders with the Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers say progress is really happening.

"They've been working in Buildings 3 and 8, and they finished one line. It's very labor-intensive but we're thrilled with the progress," says Wilson Kimball, president and CEO of the Municipal Housing Authority for the City of Yonkers.

Kimball says their timeline to get to all the units in the complex is about 14 months.

While some residents say they've already waited long enough, others say they've adapted.

"I don't really think about it anymore," says Harrison, who lives in the Palisade Towers.
