2h agoA special walkout ceremony was held in Goshen Thursday to say goodbye to Orange County’s longest-serving sheriff.
Sheriff Carl Dubois retired after five terms as sheriff and more than 40 years in law enforcement.
DuBois was honored outside of the Orange County Sheriff's Office by a line of uniformed police and deputies who stood in salute.
At the end of the line, he shook his longtime undersheriff’s hand, and hugged and kissed his wife.
“Love the job, hate the politics, but it’s time," said Dubois. "It’s time for me to go. I put in 40+ years in law enforcement, and again I’m ready to enjoy life and not have to worry about everything 24-7."
Dubois did not run for reelection and his former captain, Paul Arteta, was voted in.
Dubois says he now plans on enjoying retirement with his wife and spending winters down south.
