Ossining was just one of many communities across the Hudson Valley that took a moment to pause and reflect on the sacrifices of our service men and women on Veterans Day.

For the 92nd year, the village hosted a memorial ceremony at Nelson Park to pay tribute to Ossining and other local residents who died in America's wars.

Part of the commemoration involved different groups, such as Gold Star mothers and the American Legion Post, placing a wreath right under the American flag.

There was also a gun salute and the solemn playing of taps.

One local veteran told News 12 why it's so important for the community to hold this ceremony every year.

"It's something that's important to our veterans, it's important to our community. We try to remember the notion of civic pride and the importance of being Americans, and what it means to sacrifice," says veteran Steve Felsenfeld.

Other events included a gathering in New Rochelle at the World War I Monument in Faneuil Park on East Main Street and a ceremony at the John Rinaldi Memorial Park in Poughkeepsie in Dutchess County.
