A proposal for a pet crematorium in Ulster County has been withdrawn.

The group opposing the plan says the applicant officially pulled the application for the site near Highland Elementary School, which was set to occupy an abandoned commercial building.

While opponents say this proposal is off the table, they warn the issue isn't over.

On Aug. 20, the Lloyd Town Board will consider zoning changes that could reclassify crematoriums—both pet and human—as light industrial, potentially opening the door for similar proposals in the future.
