Rep. Mondaire Jones and Rockland County Executive Ed Day assessed damage in Piermont Saturday.

The officials thanked first responders for the many people they saved from the flooding caused by the remnants of Hurricane Ida.

They also held conversations about what changes need to be made to prevent mass flooding from happening again.

Piermont, nestled between a pier and mountains, has seen flooding from the river and during the heavy storms last week, from the palisades. 

While locals posed suggestions, such as water flow and infrastructure changes, others suggested that this is just the result of climate change.

The Piermont Fire Department has other suggestions, as well as better communication.

Chief Sam Kropp from the fire department says residents need to know when to stay off the roadways and when to not endanger themselves and first responders.
