A Minisink school bus aide has been arrested and is accused of sexual assaulting an 8-year-old girl onboard a district bus, police say.

State police say 76-year-old Nicola Loguerico, from New Hampton, was arrested Monday after Minisink Valley Central School District administration notified them last Thursday of an incident involving the suspect and a young student.

Authorities say the investigation discovered that the district bus aide had been inappropriately touching the victim on the school bus over the last week.

Loguerico was charged with felony sex abuse and ordered to Orange County Jail on $5,000 bail.

Authorities are asking anyone with additional information and/or additional victims to contact state police at 845-344-5300.

The Minisink Valley Central School District released the following statement regarding the allegations:

“To be as transparent as possible, we wish to advise you of the May 20 arrest of a Transportation Department bus monitor. The district received the complaint on May 16. Immediately, the district notified law enforcement, which launched its own immediate investigation, in conjunction with the district, on that same date. This individual was placed on administrative leave as soon as the district received the complaint. Because of this rapid and sensitive nature of this investigation, we were not able to share any details until now. This alleged incident is now under the jurisdiction of the New York State Police. Because of strict FERPA guidelines and other laws governing confidentiality, we cannot and will not discuss any details of this investigation or the parties involved at this time.
