A water main break in Yorktown is affecting most residents in the town, police say.
The rupture happened around 12:30 p.m. Sunday on Route 35, forcing a closure from Quaker Church Road and Greenwood Street.
Crews from Yorktown Water Department and Yorktown Water District were still making repairs as of Sunday night.
As a result, water was shut off for residents.
Yorktown Town Supervisor Tom Diana said it was not immediately clear what caused the rupture.
He said crews would work on repairs to restore water service as soon as possible. He added that once service would be restored, residents may experience low pressure and the water may be discolored.
Diana recommended that the water be boiled for drinking or cooking.
Officials hoped that the water service would be repaired by midnight.
Diana also said they hope to have Route 35 reopened to traffic by rush hour on Monday morning.
