The possible contamination of Buchanan?s sewer system by elevated levels of a radioactive element from Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant has prompted a call for an investigation.

Plant owner Entergy announced small amounts of tritium were found in the sewer system. That system connects to Buchanan?s sewers. Tritium is already contaminating ground water under Indian Point, but it has never been confirmed as spreading beyond the plant's boundaries. Results from samples from Buchanan?s sewers won?t be back from an upstate lab until next week.Westchester County Executive Andy Spano joined members of Congress to urge the EPA to investigate. ?Certainly no one should panic over it, but this is a nuclear plant and we're concerned about the health and safety of people in general,? Spano said.
