Parents throughout Westchester and the Hudson Valley are calling for reform in the family court system.
A group of protesters marched outside Yonkers County Family Court on Warburton Avenue Friday morning, saying the decisions judges make are not fact-based, but rather opinion- and monetary-based.
The protest comes after the chairs of two New York State Senate committees released a
preliminary report on the need for family court reform, calling the system "dysfunctional, unacceptable and requiring deep re-examination."
Many parents and supporters at Friday's protest agreed.
"The first thing they do in family court is break the Constitution," Jose Diaz said. "These judges take an oath of office and the first thing they do is break that oath."
Another parent expressed his frustration, saying the court will not listen to him no matter how hard he tries.
