The term 'quad-demic' has gained popularity through social media. It is synonymous with the uptick of influenza, COVID-19, RSV and norovirus cases all rising simultaneously.
The uptick of cases is being attributed, in part, to the ending of the holiday season and everyone seeing their families in close proximity.
It also ties into people staying indoors more, once again in close proximity, with recent blistering weather.
Health care professionals News 12 spoke with say the uptick isn't necessarily out of the ordinary.
"We see this every winter, but this year the numbers are significantly, from what we can tell, they're up right now," said Dr. Sherlita Amler, commissioner of health with Westchester County.
Officials recommend a variety of pre-cautionary measures to take to stave off the viruses such as:
  1. Washing your hands
  2. Disinfecting surfaces with the proper cleaning agents and gloves
  3. Wearing masks
  4. Staying up to date with vaccinations
