A New City jury found a man guilty of attempted murder Wednesday in the case of a Sloatsburg courtroom shooting.

Leo Lewis, 60, was convicted of second-degree attempted murder and two counts of weapons possession. Lewis smuggled a sawed-off rifle into the court May 7 and opened fire on a woman he was suing.

The bullet missed Sara Bannout, 22, and hit the judge's bench. Lewis was suing Bannout for $3,000 after he won her sexual harassment case against him. Bannout was a friend of Lewis' son.

Lewis fled in the chaos but was caught in the parking lot, where, according to testimony, he said, "I should have shot the (expletive)." Later, Lewis signed a statement that said, "Sara Bannout lied about me touching her. She already ruined my life and at times, I thought about killing her."

Defense attorney Barry Weiss argued that his client was only trying to vent his anger. "There was never an intent to kill her ? but the jury has spoken and Leo and I will appeal this matter through the courts," Weiss said."

Lewis faces up to 25 years in prison. He will be sentenced Feb. 4.
