Renovations have begun on a vacant movie theater in Spring Valley that used to show X-rated films.
The town of Ramapo purchased the building and plans to put in new seats, extend the stage and provide a new projection system. It will become the Ramapo Cultural Arts Center and will be home to movies, live performances, plays, concerts and lectures.
The building will also house local organizations. The Ramapo town supervisor believes the theater will be an economic boon to Spring Valley. The arts center is scheduled to open October 15.
