While the U.S. making progress overall in the battle against COVID-19, health officials are now predicting there will be more than 600,000 deaths from the virus by June 1.
The infection rate is trending down, with much of the U-S seeing a significant drop in cases, according to Johns Hopkins University.
Doctors attribute that to the vaccine kicking in. However, health officials stress the pandemic still poses a serious threat. "We've had three surges, whether or not we have a fourth surge is up to us and the stakes couldn't be higher," says Dr. Tom Frieden, Former Director of the CDC
The University of Washington's Institute for Health metrics and evaluation projects another 130,000 in the U.S. by June 1st.
The CDC urging Americans to keep wearing masks and observe six feet of social distancing between yourself and those outside your household.
