Rite Aid is planning to close 16 locations in New Jersey following Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.
The chain has already stopped issuing customer reward points at closing locations and plans to stop honoring gift cards and processing returns next week.
Highland Park residents who have already experienced the loss of several other nearby chain stores say they aren't surprised that a company like Rite Aid is also closing in their neighborhood.
"When I opened a safety deposit box at Wells Fargo, they shut down first. Then Stop & Shop shut down, now Rite Aid is shutting down,” says Adam Villanueva.
"Drug prices are cheaper. It's $100 for a drug there and over here it's like much cheaper," said Abraham Dulko.
Rite Aid corporate officials say their key priority is transferring customer prescriptions to other pharmacies like CVS or Walgreens.
Rite Aid has not confirmed the exact closing dates.
