The Rockland to Manhattan ferry service had its maiden voyage Tuesday with 11 passengers aboard the New York Water Taxi.
The ferry leaves from Haverstraw and makes a stop in Yonkers before docking at Wall Street in lower Manhattan. Fares between Haverstraw and Manhattan are $30 round trip. The ferry makes two trips in the morning and two return trips in the evening.
Riders on the ferry said they are enjoying a very stress-free commute. One rider said instead of sitting in traffic on the bridge, she is now cruising under it. The ferry also boasts amenities such as plasma TVs, outlets for computers and plenty of leg room.
The new service is an expansion of New York Water Taxi?s existing commuter service between Yonkers and lower Manhattan. The new service is slated to run for two years, however, if it is successful, it will continue.
