Family, friends and colleagues bid farewell to Reginald LaFayette on Thursday evening in Mount Vernon.
LaFayette was a man who helped shape politics and government in Mount Vernon and in Westchester as a whole.
Westchester County Executive George Latimer and Sens. Jamaal Bailey and Andrea Stewart-Cousins paid their respects Thursday at the Macedonia Baptist Church to remember his legacy through the countless roles he held.
Lafayette died Jan. 15 at the age of 69.
He was the longtime chairman of the Westchester county Democratic Committee and the Democratic commissioner of the Westchester County Board of Elections until his passing.
Lafayette will lie in state in the rotunda of Mount Vernon City Hall Friday from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
There will be a viewing on Saturday at 9 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. service at the Macedonia Baptist Church.
