The estate of a Poughkeepsie man fatally shot by a New Jersey state trooper will receive $375,000 in an out-of-court settlement.
Maurice Gordon was shot in 2020 during a physical altercation on the Garden State Parkway. A grand jury did not file any charges.
The federal lawsuit alleged civil rights violations against the trooper, New Jersey State Police and others.
Estate attorney William Wagstaff, who confirmed the settlement, said it was the only sound decision because of the protections of qualified immunity.
The New Jersey Attorney General's Office had no statement.
