The recent increase in violence in the Bronx is giving the community cause for concern.
The latest data from the NYPD shows shootings in the Bronx are up 23 percent compared to this time last year.
In 2013, there were 82 reported shootings in the Bronx between January and the first half of May. This year, there have been 101 shootings through Mother's Day. A total of 27 people have already lost their lives to gun violence, which is up nearly 30 percent compared to this time last year.
The latest victim of gun violence in the Bronx is Quashawn Thomas, 19, who was gunned down in Williamsbridge on Sunday night. His death is one of five that occurred because of gun violence within a four-day span in the Bronx. The first instance in that sequence was an unidentified man who was shot to death on a Bronx rooftop last Thursday. The next day, two men were killed in a carjacking in Eastchester. On Sunday morning, a 22-year-old man was murdered in Castle Hill.
