Saw Mill River Parkway was closed southbound at Farragut Avenue in Hastings-on-Hudson on Monday because of what police called a “partial road collapse.”
Officials encouraged drivers to find another way around if they have to drive south, near Exit 13, to allow crews to repair the road.
News 12 learned that the partial collapse happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Officials from the state's Department of Transportation said it was caused by the rain over the weekend.
All northbound lanes were open as of Monday afternoon, but the southbound lanes remained closed. Officials said they're working to get them reopened as quick as possible.
Police said southbound traffic was diverted at Lawrence Street in Dobbs Ferry.
The closure created a headache for some drivers.
"From what I heard, it's kind of backed up in Ardsley," resident Tommy McMullen said.
"It's a bad feeling, but things happen," said passenger Tamazi Mamukashvili.
Officials have not said when the repairs will be done.
