The special American flag arrived at John F. Kennedy International Airport Monday to be flown at half-staff in honor of slain detective Christopher Ridley.

The United States Flag of Honor has been raised in Iraq, Afghanistan and all over the country. It was designated as such sometime after Sept. 11 when it flew at ground zero. The flag has since been flown all over the U.S. to honor those killed in the line of duty.

Officer Ridley was mistakenly shot one month ago by Westchester County police when he tried to break up a fight between two homeless people. Ridley was posthumously promoted to detective.

Ridley?s family and fellow police officers gathered to accept the flag at JFK. The flag will be flown atop Mt. Vernon City Hall Tuesday at 11 a.m. during a special ceremony.
