(07/09/2010) NEW WINDSOR - The Town of New Windsor has declared a ?stage one drought emergency,? which means residents can?t wash their cars or hose down streets and sidewalks.
Residents are permitted to water their lawns, but only on an odd-even system. Residents whose address is an even number can water their lawn, 7 a.m. ? 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. ? 9 p.m. on even-numbered days. The opposite is true for people with odd-numbered addresses.
Residents may not use town water to wash any vehicle, fill their pool or wash any hard or paved surfaces, including streets, sidewalks, driveways etc. Restaurants are being told only to serve town water to patrons who request it.
Officials say any resident in violation of these restrictions will be fined.
