A police officer was cleared Friday of the possibility of charges in a fatal shooting that happened last year.
The state attorney general's office says criminal charges will not be filed against the Town of Wallkill police officer in connection with that killing.
Officers responded after receiving a call that Christopher Van Kleeck was behaving erratically. Van Kleeck had a history of mental illness and was well-known to police.
Officers say Van Kleeck was chasing his father with two knives when they arrived.
The officer in question fired three times, striking him once. Van Kleeck was pronounced dead at the hospital.
