Dozens of Stony Point town workers say they are dealing with payroll issues after trying to access their paychecks this week.
Many of the workers with direct deposit say they were unable to retrieve any of their money due to an apparent computer glitch at the bank, while others from the parks and highways departments say they were surprised by an added tax.
Officials say they are working with various banks to resolve the direct-deposit issue and that employees should be able to access their money by midnight.
For the other workers, Town Supervisor William Sherwood says the IRS conducted a random payroll audit at the beginning of the month and informed the town that the workers must be taxed the value of their uniforms.
Sherwood says that department heads were notified that the extra tax would take place this pay period and should have informed their workers.
