Storms that ripped through the Hudson Valley on Tuesday left downed trees, flooding and damage to homes in its wake.
In Chester, a home on Carpenter Road was severely damaged when a massive tree fell on top of it. The Collazo family, who has lived in the home for 20 years, tells News 12 they are counting their blessings after a massive tree fell and crushed the back side of their home.
They say both of their sons escaped from the damage unharmed.
Rick Collazo says he and his wife were out grabbing a bite to eat, and as they pulled into the driveway, the massive tree fell on their house and destroyed everything on the way down.
Their two sons, including one with autism, were home at the time, but they were in front of the house and escaped.
The family says the home is likely a total loss.
"They would have been gone, because it crushed the bedroom and it crushed the bathroom, so we were blessed in that sense," says the homeowner.
Port Jervis resident Kevin Adams is lucky as well. A tree outside his Orange Street home fell onto the road and away from where he was standing.
"We looked out and we saw it had literally crashed across the street as opposed to onto the house and it was really, really close," says Adams.
His neighbors across the street don't share those feelings - their car took a direct hit.
There was also flooding on roads, such as on Route 303 in Orangeburg where four cars were trapped.
Some areas saw hail the size of quarters.
Utility crews worked overnight to restore power.
