Ribeye, filet mignon, skirt steak
are expensive cuts that will cost you at least $9.99 per pound, but what if you
can buy a cow and pay less per pound? That is, if you are willing to buy the
cow.
News 12's consumer
reporter Janice Lieberman has The Real Deal on how you can save.
Ashley Iannotta
says she splits a whole cow with another family, they each pay $2,500, and
once the cow is slaughtered it yields about 700 pounds. Each family takes
home 350 pounds, which will last the whole year. Instead of paying almost $10 a pound,
she gets it for $7.50 a pound.
Freedom Farms is a cattle, pork and
chicken farm in Upstate New York owned by former Long Island
residents Dana and Lauren Cavailier.
Customers choose their preferred
cuts of meat, and after the meat is butchered it’s delivered right to their
door step.
The family
Lieberman spoke with, uses a second freezer for storage. If you are
interested in purchasing a large amount of meat, see if the farm offers samples
of cuts to try before making the investment.
