TSA: Airline travel didn’t reach pre-pandemic levels this Christmas weekend
Between the many flight cancellations and would-be travelers deciding to stay home, airline travel did not reach pre-pandemic numbers on Christmas weekend.
TSA says the more than 1.5 million people were screened at airports Saturday, which is up from the same time last year. However, it is a about 1 million less people that went through checkpoints in 2019.
On Sunday, it was a sunny, clear day at LaGuardia International Airport, but planes were still being grounded as the Omicron variant sweeps the country, affecting flight crews and airlines.
Data tracking website Flight Aware reported that over the last three days, 6,000 flights have been canceled worldwide.
