A West Haverstraw man convicted of 13 counts of animal cruelty was sentenced Tuesday to three years of probation and 450 hours of community service.
Robert Everle, 60, was also ordered to forfeit hundreds of animals, except for two domestic pets, and pay a $13,000 fine. In addition, Everle must pay $17,000 in restitution to a Chestnut Ridge veterinarian who treated many of the animals seized from his property. If Everle is unable to pay, he will face a year behind bars.
Everle was arrested last July after authorities raided his property and found animals living in what was described as terrible conditions.
