People living in several Westchester communities are cleaning up the mess left behind following Sunday night's powerful storm.
Horace Howell, who lives on Sixth Avenue in Pelham, says he has lived on the block for 24 years and has never experienced the damage that was caused as a result of the storm. His basement, where his son lives, is completely flooded and his SUV is destroyed.
Howell is pleading with village officials to find a permanent solution to the chronic flooding problem.
"We need some help," he says.
Howell’s neighbor, Ossie Coto, who lives across the street, is also cleaning out a flooded basement.
"Around 20 to 24 inches went into the basement. Got the whole garage, the garage door was [bent] with the force of the water," says Coto.
The storm also wreaked havoc in New Rochelle. Cellphone footage shows Sickles Avenue near Prince Street looking more like a river late Sunday night.
A New Rochelle city official who drove by said to News 12, "They're working on it, I know there is an inspector working on this."
