State Sen. Sujata Gadkar-Wilcox, of Trumbull, marked Women’s Equality Day Wednesday by calling the anniversary both a "historical landmark" and a "critical call to action."

The annual event commemorates 106 years since the 1920 certification of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the constitutional right to vote.

While celebrating the historic milestone, Gadkar-Wilcox said there is a lot of work left to be done.

She highlighted Connecticut's recent passage of pay transparency legislation as a step forward, but said a wage gap still exists between men and women.
