Crews are continuing to install fencing along the entire span of the Tappan Zee Bridge after four people jumped off the bridge this year.

They are installing a five-and-a-half-foot high fence, filling in the gaps between the railing so people cannot squeeze through. Crews are also installing eight suicide prevention phones along the span and there will be around-the-clock bridge patrols to locate people before they jump.

Officials say that the $5 million project will be completed by the end of the month.

Crews admit that the fence will not be 100 percent effective, but they hope it provides an obstacle that will allow people to think about what they are doing and seek help.
