One of two NYPD officers shot in the Bronx Monday night is back at home.
Officer Aliro Pellerano, a 38-year-old from Rockland County, was released from Saint Barnabas Hospital after being shot in his left arm and side while responding to an armed robbery in Fordham.
Bagpipers played in the background as about 100 officers from almost every Bronx precinct stood in line to greet Pellerano.
The other officer, 30-year-old Andrew Dossi, will remain at the same hospital after sustaining gunshot wounds to his back and left arm, but he is said to be in high spirits. He will need another surgery and physical therapy, and it's not yet clear when he will be sent home.
According to police, Jason Polanco and Joshua Kemp have been arrested in connection with the shootings. They are both from the Bronx and have prior arrests.
Investigators say Pellerano and Dossi were working in plain clothes as part of a five-person anti-crime unit at the 46th Precinct when they approached the possible robbery suspects at East 184th Street and Tiebout Avenue. Polanco is accused of shooting at the cops, one of whom returned fire, and both were wounded in the exchange.
Polanco is facing several charges, including attempted murder and robbery. Kemp faces robbery and weapons charges, among others.
