The investigation continues in Yonkers after police say a 79-year-old woman was found dead inside of her apartment.
Yonkers police said they were called to the Bronxville Ridge Apartments on Bronx River Road on Friday, after getting a report about a person who died and was found by building staff.
When police arrived, they said they found a 79-year-old woman dead inside of her apartment in building No. 828.
Investigators said their response on Friday began as a routine investigation for a person who died in what they call an "unattended death."
They added that further investigation revealed that the woman's body had injuries that are "consistent with assault."
While police said no arrests have been made yet, the building's superintendent said he was the one who found the woman's body.
According to him, the shocking discovery was made after police informed a plumber to look for building staff after the woman didn't answer the plumber's calls.
"Which he said, I was not around. But the next day, he came back and spoke to my daughter and left his business card, so I decided to go and check the apartment and when I went in, she was on the floor," the superintendent said.
Days later, the superintendent said he is still shaken up by what he saw.
The superintendent added that the woman was a psychologist and wasn't sure how long she had lived at the complex.
"She was not a person that was very communicative with neighbors. She was always kept to herself," the superintendent said.
