Yonkers police say a school was temporarily placed on lockdown Monday following a report of a man having a mental health emergency.
"My husband saw something on Instagram, just a local Yonkers page that posted a traffic alert to stay away from the streets and that the school was on lockdown, I was like that's our son's school," says Yonkers mother, Victoria Gomez.
Police say a call came in shortly before 1 p.m. about someone living in the O’Rourke townhomes on Shoreview Drive who was possibly having suicidal ideations and may have had a gun.
Officials say that the man did not express harming anyone other than himself.
The complex is located across the street from the Robert C. Dodson School.
Police contacted Robert C. Dodson School out of an abundance of caution, and it was temporarily placed on lockdown.
"This is never news you want to hear," says Gomez.
Police took the man into protective custody, and the lockdown was later lifted at the school.
Police say no firearm was found on the man. Investigators are still looking into it.
No one was injured, according to officers.
The whole ordeal left neighbors on edge.
"I was scared," says Ruth Samuels who lives in the O’Rourke townhomes.
