Some Bronx and city charter school teachers may soon see results-based bonuses thanks to a multimillion grant from the U.S. Department of Education.

The agency awarded the Center for Educational Innovation a $10.5 million grant. The nonprofit will dole out the funding over five years to several schools. The group will use the money to award bonuses to supervisors, teachers and classroom aides based on students' performance.

The Bronx schools that stand to benefit include the Bronx Charter School for Children, the Family Life Academy and the South Bronx Charter School for International Culture and Arts.

The United Federation of Teachers, which only represents teachers in public schools, opposes charter school instructors being given bonuses based on test and graduation rates. While city charter schools are funded with taxpayer money, they are run privately and teachers are not unionized.
