An Islanders star player has opened up a space to support kids in memory of his mother.

Matthew Schaefer cut the ribbon on Monday on the "Jennifer Schaefer Child Support Room" at Northwell's Zuckerberg Cancer Center in Lake Success.

It is a place for kids to go to as their parents go through treatment. It has games and Islanders memorabilia. Counseling can also be done there.

Schaefer says it's a place he could've used when his mom was battling cancer.

The room was made possible by a $150,000 gift from the Islanders Children's Foundation.
