After the Food and Drug Administration voted in favor of administering Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 6-11, that same committee will vote on whether children under 6 years old will become eligible for the vaccine.

Children under 6 are now the lone group not eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine. According to recent data from the FDA, the Pfizer vaccine when administered in three doses is effective at preventing the virus in children ages 6 months to 4 years.

Another FDA document shows that Moderna’s vaccine for children in that same age range is effective.

The FDA advisory committee will vote Wednesday on whether to grant emergency use authorization for both of these vaccines for children as young as 6 months old.
