New York Attorney General announced new efforts to crack down on illegal gun sales.
Letitia James' office on Tuesday sent a cease-and-desist order to 39 online ammunition sellers that it says have illegally shipped their products to New Yorkers.
The state's SAFE Act prohibits online sales of ammunition and requires all sales to be conducted in person by a licensed firearms dealer or registered seller.
The act also requires those sellers to maintain a record of every sale.
This notice says the companies must stop or face serious legal consequences, including $5,000 fines for each violation or they may have to give up all profits from illegal sales.
