Members of the Air National Guard in Newburgh provided aid to thousands in need in Louisiana Wednesday.
Members of the guard flew from Stewart Air Base to California to pick up members of the Los Angeles and San Diego fire departments and members of FEMA. They then headed to Louisiana to bring 85,000 pounds of cargo to victims of Hurricane Katrina.
Members of the guard in Newburgh also flew to east Asia following the tsunami to assist victims. They say providing assistance to hurricane victims is their way of thanking the rest of the world for all the help they gave New York during 9/11. They also say additional guard members are standing by.
