Preliminary autopsy reports confirm two Yonkers children died from exposure to extremely hot water Friday.
The Westchester Medical Examiner confirms 2-year-old Elijaha Santana and his half brother, 1-year-old David Maldonado, were exposed to scalding water for over two and half hours leading to their deaths. The examiner says the boys suffered from cardiac arrest and second-degree burns on their backs, legs and feet.
Authorities say 31-year-old David Maldonado, the father of one of the boys, and 25-year-old Luz Arroyo, the mother of both of the boys, were intoxicated and passed out, leaving the children in the bathroom unattended. Maldonado is facing manslaughter charges. Arroyo is facing criminally negligent homicide. Both parents also face drug charges.
