Rockland County submitted papers in federal court Thursday giving the green light to a lawsuit against the Federal Aviation Administration?s (FAA) new flight plan.The FAA?s plan, approved last week, would redirect hundreds of planes over Rockland to ease congestion at Newark Liberty International Airport. Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef hired an international law firm last month in anticipation of fighting the plan. The firm is looking into whether the FAA violated noise mitigation laws while creating its airspace redesign project.

Vanderhoef says other towns such as Orangetown, Clarkstown and Ramapo have indicated they too may join the county's lawsuit. He says the case against the FAA is a strong one.
