A Bronx mother accused of killing her 6-year-old daughter in a Morrisania apartment last spring appeared in court on Tuesday.
Lynjia Eason Kumar, 27, was arraigned on Friday and charged with multiple crimes for the death of her daughter Jalayah, including murder.
Court documents say she’s accused of tying the little girl’s hands and feet together, then hanging her in a closet and hitting her repeatedly. The medical examiner determined the little girl died after she could not breathe while hung up along with being malnourished and being severely injured.
After a thorough investigation, the Bronx District Attorney's Office says this may have been a case of ongoing abuse as Jalayah was found with bruises and scars around her body, including some that were new and others that were old.
Besides murder, the mother is also charged with manslaughter and endangering the welfare of a child.
