Brooklyn man faces charges in connection to fatal hit-and-run in Hartsdale

A Brooklyn man is facing numerous charges stemming from an August 2023 crash that killed a well-known Greenburgh community figure as she was crossing the street in Hartsdale.
In a courtroom before Judge George Fufidio Thursday, Antonio Robles-Sanchez, 42, pleaded not guilty to seven charges, including vehicular manslaughter, leaving the scene of an accident with injury and criminally negligent homicide.
Prosecutors said that on Aug. 26, Robles-Sanchez hit Stephanie Kavourias, 65, with his Dodge Ram as she was crossing the intersection of Rockledge Road and East Hartsdale Avenue.
They said Robles-Sanchez then left the scene.
He was arrested shortly afterward.
Kavourias – a longtime Town of Greenburgh employee and community organizer – died later at White Plains Hospital.
Robles-Sanchez is also facing four drug-related charges.
Prosecutors said he was driving while impaired by drugs, and was in possession of three drugs: cocaine, alprazolam and clonazepam.
Alprazolam and clonazepam are benzodiazepines, commonly used to treat seizures and anxiety.
"I was here," Lorraine McGivern, who lives near the intersection, told News 12. "I watched them put her in the ambulance."
McGivern said she is glad Robles-Sanchez could face a jail sentence of more than 20 years in jail if convicted, especially considering he is accused of leaving the scene after he knowingly hit a pedestrian.
"Unfortunately, you have to pay a price for something that was so horrific," McGivern said.
“The defendant’s alleged behavior took the life of a cherished member of the Greenburgh community," Westchester County District Attorney Miriam Rocah wrote in a press release after Thursday's arraignment. "We will now seek to hold this defendant accountable for his actions in this senseless tragedy. Our hearts remain with family, friends and colleagues of Ms. Kavourias.”
Judge Fufidio scheduled a preliminary conference with Robles-Sanchez's attorney and prosecutors for February 29th.
Robles-Sanchez remains in jail on $500,000 cash bail.
