A cab driver helped police catch a suspect on the run in the town of Walkill Friday.Sheriff's Deputy Justin Butterfield says he noticed a driver without a seat belt and tried to pull the car over. Instead of obeying police, 29-year-old Port Jervis resident Paul Gordon led police on an intense chase. It turns out Gordon is a career criminal, with a history of burglaries and larcenies, who was out on parole. The car he was driving was uninsured and unregistered. When Gordon's car crashed into a wooded area, Butterfield followed him into the woods. After a two-hour search, Butterfield spotted a taxi in the rural area. The cab driver told Butterfield he was going to pick a man up on a bridge. Police rode with the cab driver to a bridge on Derby Road where they arrested Gordon. Gordon has been charged with reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and obstructing governmental administration. Because of his parole violation, police expect him to return to prison.
