yesterdayCentral Middle School has been “deemed safe to be occupied once again” following an inspection by Gap Mountain Consulting Engineers and the Greenwich Public Schools Facilities Department.
Students at CMS were moved to Greenwich High School following concerns that the building had sustained damage from the 4.8 magnitude earthquake that shook the tri-state area on Friday. Officials said a post-earthquake inspection revealed cracks in the building.
According to a release from the school:
“There has been no new structural damage due to Friday’s earthquake, the new cracks (or widening of existing cracks) that were noticed do not impact the integrity of the building, and because the engineer had conducted inspections of CMS in the past and knows the building very well, we are extremely confident in his findings and the continued safety of the building for our students and staff.”
Gap Mountain Consulting Engineers released a 14-page report on their findings.
CMS will operate as normal on Monday.
