A 33-year-old construction worker died Friday about an hour after being slammed by a construction vehicle excavating outside a Captain Faldermeyer Drive house.
Police say Thomas Collins, of Garnerville, was hit by an excavator bucket and pinned to the side of the house at about 11 a.m. Collins lost consciousness and was in critical condition when emergency medical personnel flew him by helicopter to Westchester Medical Center. He later died as a result of his injuries.
Collins worked for James R. Guittari Co., which had about five workers excavating on the property, where the owners were building an extension. Detectives and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) are investigating the accident.
