(AP) - Joseph DioGuardi, a former congressman from Westchester County, completed a turnaround Tuesday to wina three-way Republican primary election in a bid to unseat Sen.Kirsten Gillibrand. DioGuardi had to petition his way on to the ballot after failingto muster enough party support at the state convention. He nowfaces a Democrat with a wide lead in the polls and far morecampaign cash. DioGuardi, the father of former "American Idol" judge KaraDioGuardi, defeated David Malpass, a former Bear Stearns chiefeconomist, and Bruce Blakeman, a former Long Island lawmaker.
