The City of East Orange honored a late trailblazer Wednesday.
Officials renamed City Hall after the late Rep. Donald Payne, Sr.
New Jersey's first Black congressman spent 23 years in the House of Representatives.
He died of cancer in 2012.
"My father tried to work on behalf of the downtrodden, the forgotten person, the invisible citizen and stand up for them, and so he would be just very humbled by the recognition he is receiving today," said Rep. Donald Payne, Jr.
Payne's legacy lives on through his son who is currently in Congress, and his grandson Jack who also wants to run for public office one day.
