Egg prices continue to soar as avian flu impacts egg production throughout the county.
Bakery owner Bobby Artuso, who owns Artuso & Sons in Thornwood, says that a single case of eggs cost him around $50 toward the end of the pandemic.
"We got our order in Thursday," said Artuso. "We paid almost $226 for a case of eggs."
Artuso has been at this location for 31 years and says he has never seen anything like this before.
Other businesses, such as Central Plaza Diner in Yonkers, imposed a temporary surcharge on their egg platters to offset the cost.
"Four months ago, I was paying $600 a week. Now I'm paying $2,200 a week, said owner Andrew Sofocli. "Breakfast is always a good profit and that was taken away. Between the coffee prices and egg prices, it's hard to make money. So, it does affect the business."
Some grocery stores have also been reported to be limiting egg purchases due to the avian flu.
One grocery store News 12 stopped by was charging $9.99 for eggs.
Maria Mott drove from White Plains to Thornwood in the hope of of purchasing cheaper eggs.
"You can't even afford to buy eggs no more," said Mott.
