A fire broke out
in a building attached to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset around 1
a.m.
The chief of the
Manhasset-Lakeville Fire Department Michael Rice tells News 12 the initial call
reported smoke coming from the window of a building under construction attached
to the hospital.
News 12 has been
told it was a new surgical wing of the hospital.
The chief says
construction made it difficult for firefighters to initially reach the fire.
About 150
firefighters responded to the scene, where the heavy fire engulfed the
first floor.
The fire is under
control, and there are no injuries reported at this time.
Fire officials tell News 12 the
fire was accidental and electrical.
Community Drive was closed from
Northern Boulevard to the Long Island Expressway service road because of the
fire. It has since reopened.
