An
Orange County juvenile detention center that was once at risk for closing will
now remain open.
The governor's
budget called for Goshen Secure Center to close next year to save the state
millions of dollars.
Sen. James Skoufis tells News 12 the funding helped to keep the
maximum-security facility open and save hundreds of positions.
“Next year, we keep the doors open for everyone who works here,” says
Skoufis. “Everyone who gets service here and for the broader Orange County
community.”
The
maximum-security facility is operated by the Office of Children and Family
Services and also provides mental health and rehabilitation services to
juvenile offenders.
The Goshen Secure Center houses young men
under the age of 16 who commit violent felonies.
